Shadow Shot Sunday Self Portrait

The first hints of the end of summer reveal themselves in the long afternoon shadows. Sunset comes minutes earlier each evening. Flowers are just a slightly less brilliant shade of color than the day before. The butterflies are gone and the other insects seem a step slower. Summer may be slipping away, but I still have this day to enjoy.

On edit: Margaret inquired whether this was a self timed shot. Nope. I set this up in the hallway outside of my son's bathroom where the octagonal window is. Here is the uncropped shot. I just aimed the camera at the mirror in the bathroom and lined the shot up.

  1. My first hint of the end of summer: Shopping for a new heating system. The flowers still look as brilliant to me, maybe more so because I know they will be gone soon. ~Mary

  3. Both shots are great! First time I have seen a self-portrait - a timed shot, I wonder.

  4. I like your self-portrait-particularly the uncropped one-the way you are in the light in the middle of all the shadow. Great!

  5. Is that you shooting hoops in the pic behind? Because then it's a self-portrait of a self-portrait.

  8. Love these photos! The touch of shadow whispering through the leaf in the first shot is delightful! And both following shots are very creative.

  9. Love the self portrait. What a clever way to accomplish that! I imagine that octagonal window offers lots of possibilities for a shutterbug.

Your writing is lovely here, too. I can sense the melancholy creeping in, and I share the sentiment. It's all fading away too quickly.

  18. The end of summer is not a good thing! Unless you of course enjoy cold weather. Love both these photos. Especially your self-portrait shot!
